So, after watching so many animes with romance, comedy genre, i decided to try and watch a korean drama. I wasn't really a k-pop fan at that time so i didn't know any korean actors or actress. though i knew a few boy/girl bands like S.J. and SNSD etc. K-pop was booming in Malaysia, even if you're not into them, you would at least knew a few songs like sorry2, or gee or nobody2. back to the drama, the reason this was my first k-drama was because, a new channel was introduced into ASTRO targeting k-pop fans (ONE HD). I didn't really bother at first, but the commercials kept on promoting this channel and showed scenes from this drama. there were only 2 scenes, but it managed to attract me anyways, 1. a beautiful girl in white smiling, 2. the girl showed her nine tails. she's gorgeous, what would you expect, i googled her =.=
My first impression of the first episode was, damn, why didn't i watch this earlier? It was awesome, the actors/actress were good looking, the story was kinda corny but i don't mind and the comedy was quite well done. I was like, no wonder the ratings were so high! that was what i thought back then. but now, i think it's overrated. Maybe it's because i'm a guy( k-drama mostly target female audience). It's not bad, but it's not as astounding as the score.
Plot- 3/10
I'd say, the plot is the main weakness of this drama, first few episodes and you're so hooked to it, but it gets boring later on. first/second episode, Dae Woong runs away from his grandfather and was tricked by Mi Ho(the ninne-tailed-fox). he later suffers injuries and the only way to save him is by using Mi Ho's bead which has the power to heal..............in the end, Dae Woong was forced to take care of the bead(and Mi Ho) while the bead is still healing his badly injured body. truthfully, these were the best part of the series, and with Lee Seung Gi acting, dam, it was funny.
The episodes after that, it was all about Mi Ho trying to win Dae Woong's heart and prevent him from being afraid of her( successful later on ). at the same time, Woong's love interest tries to win him from Mi Ho. Mi Ho on the other hand was supposed to have been forced to return to the painting she was trapped in(for hundreds of years) by another male character named Park Dong Ju(half goblin). Just because she resembles a girl he knew in the past, he let her go and even helped her to become a human. Actually, he gave Mi Ho 2 choices, he encourages her to return to the painting or, with the help of Dae Woong, become a human. But you would definitely know what the outcome is going to be right? haizzz so predictable.
no more explaining needed, this is basically the whole plot. Dae Woong falls for her, protect her, Hye in tries to win him back..... blabla, its just to predictable. after episode 9 or so, i realize that the drama repeats over and over, it gets old. i didn't even managed to finish the entire drama(stopped at ep11) because i could basically predict the ending already. everywhere, people are saying that it has such a happy ending, best happy ending, etc... I tried watching for a 2nd time, but still couldn't force my self to watch towards the end.
A thing i liked was the sub plot about the romance between the Director and Dae Woong's aunt. each episode has around 5 minutes of this sub plot. good stuff
Characters- 6/10
Dae Woong(Lee Seung Gi)-
I watched this before i was into kpop, so I didn't know how famous this dude was, I think he did a good job portraying a rich spoiled kid. He really is like one. Maybe, he's the reason why the ratings so high. everyone is just crazy about him. He's a natural. Based on my thoughts b4 i knew how famous he was, no complaints. D:
I get the feeling that I've seen this face somewhere, , hmmm, he's like Ronald Weasly! His face, expressions and the way he talks. so, he's like a cuter, Asian version of Ron.
Mi Ho(Shin Min Ah)-
The main reason i watched this drama. Her face in HD, is too beautiful. but i have to say, she looks more beautiful from certain angles, maybe its the shape of her face.
In this drama, she acts like an immature kid who came from an unknown world. She doesn't know many things about the current human world and acts foolishly without adult manners. at first, I accepted the way she acts, because she's been traped for a long time, but when i think about it, she's been to the human world in the past, and she has observed how people act in the shrine she was trapped in. She doesn't have to act so ridiculously. My point is, it gets a little annoying after a while, but it's not that bad, depends on how you view her character.
Park Dong Ju(No Min Woo)-
The character i have problems with. He's just trying too hard to be cool, owh my goodness. The way he acts(has an expressionless face), talks, the clothes that he wears. maybe all goblins are like that.
He tries to help Mi Ho to become a human, why go through all the hassle? I don't know, he gets all sentimental when he remembers about his past. just an annoying character tht makes you want to punch. I'm not sure whether he should be classified as a good guy, or a bad guy. He tries to help Mi Ho become human, without telling her that Dae Woong would die during the process. You decide~
Eun Hye In(Park Soo Jin)-
These are the 4 main characters of the story, but there were some other characters worth mentioning, first is Dae Woong's grandfather and second, the director. Both delivers great comedy leaving you laughing your buts off. Conclusion, some characters were great and some weren't.
Music-9/10
All the music are just so good, my favourite, losing my mind by Lee Seung Gi, really lifts my mood. all the other osts are also good, even the sub plot has its own ost.
heres a bonus, Director/Dae Woong's aunt's ost~
Overall Enjoyment- 7/10
first few episodes were really awesome, after that, it starts to get boring, maybe this is not the type of drama you should watch in a hurry, i think it should be watched slowly...and for the romance, not the plot. Not my type of drama, but still, it was a good watch that introduced me to other korean dramas.
heres a bonus, Director/Dae Woong's aunt's ost~
